I have been taking a Stress Management class this semester which I enjoy more than I thought I would. It is really interesting learning about stress, anger, fear and a whole lot more. This past week our assignment was about the fear you feel. The teacher explained that most of what we fear will never happen. He posed this question to us that really made me think:
What would you do if you weren't afraid?
Doesn't the whole world just open up in front of you?! I would go skydiving and bungee jumping. I am most afraid of these because I just know I would throw up and it would come back and it both me and the poor sap who has to skydive with me. OR my parachute wouldn't come out right, it would be a "bag of garbage" and I would become a human meteorite and die upon impact (or maybe die from a heart attack from realizing what just happened). Either way, DEATH is the result of me going skydiving. Now, in reality, the chance of these things happening is so VERY slim. Shane has been skydiving and LOVED it...but, he's a man and they do stupid things..... :D Think about the question above! What would you do?
Alexandria had her two month check up last week! She is 9 lbs. 4 oz. (15%) and 21.2 inches long (25%). Her head is in the 15% as well. So, she is tiny, tiny but still growing! :) The doctor said that she has always been in the 15% for weight so as long as she doesn't go down in the percentile, she is fine, just petite. Kaden has learned to completely love his little sister. I always call her "sis" to him and the other day he was so cute! She was asleep in her bassinet and when she started to wake up, I went over to her bedroom door and Kaden followed. When I opened the door, Kaden ran by me yelling, "SIS! SIS! SIIIS!!" It was ADORABLE! He doesn't say many words very clearly, but he had this one down. :D He always trys to hold her hand and he rests his head on her tummy when she is lying in my lap. Since he really didn't enjoy her at first, I am SO happy that he loves her now. We just taught him to give her kisses (which, for him, means a big open mouth with the tongue hanging out-haha, poor girl), but now he is sick, so we have to reteach him to not give kisses yet. Anyway, we love our kids and it is so fun to watch them grow! These are Lexi's zombie arms when she sleeps...haha. Sometimes I call her Frankenstein. ;)
Shane is the only one who can get her to smile long enough for a picture....such a daddy's girl.
Kaden was sitting next to me while I held her in my lap...he always has to be holding her somehow. What a great big brother he is. :D
Don't forget, we are going private next week, so if you haven't given me your email address yet, you still can by clicking here.
I have decided to jump on the bandwagon and make my blog private. Having two kids in today's world...it makes me feel safer knowing who is looking at my blog. If you want an invite, just leave a comment with your email address (I will make sure to delete it so not everyone in the world can see it) or email me at loretta.porter@gmail.com. I will wait to make the switch until the end of February to give everyone a chance to get me their emails who want to. :D
I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! Shane and I (thanks to my awesome mom) got to go on our first date without kids in a year and a half. My mom bought us tickets to the Vienna Ball at the U. Every year the Salt Lake Symphony (which she plays in) does a fundraiser for their upcoming year and they host this ball. They feed you a nice, delicious dinner while the Symphony plays and the BYU ballroom dancers perform. Then, they open up the floor for everyone to dance in between the BYU dancers! It was GREAT! I have taken a lot of ballroom dancing lessons in my day so I was completely looking forward to this for the last two months. I bought a formal dress and got to get my hair done. It was a nice day of pampering that I really enjoyed. While we were there, my mom took us to the "green room" where the symphony goes on their breaks from playing. When we walked in the room, the BYU dancers were also there! I think I was a bit star struck (they are the only good thing that comes from BYU...haha). I wanted Shane to learn how to do a basic waltz box step so we could get out on the dance floor with everyone else. My mom told me to ask one of the BYU dancers. I very seriously considered it, but told myself they were eating and not to bug them (they really were eating, but I just plain chickened out-I am a loser...I know). SO, my mom asked a guy who plays percussion for the symphony (I think his name was Zeph? I know it was different and I just called him Z) who knows how to dance to come teach Shane the basics. Z came over and asked Shane how much he knew about waltzing. Shane said, "I know you put your arms up." It was hysterical! Z taught him the basic step, then Shane and my mom suggested that Z dance with me to show Shane how it looks a bit faster and not just in a square. Z was TALL (at least 6'4", maybe more), but luckily I could still reach his shoulders to hang onto. Z was a very good dancer and my dancing moves weren't too rusty so I didn't think I was a total embarrassment. BUT at one point during our short dance I happened to glance out of the corner of my eye at the other people and almost EVERYONE on the BYU team was staring at us!! I felt so dumb and tried to remember that I will never see any of these people again, so it doesn't matter if they see my amateur moves compared to theirs. Anyway, it was SO fun! I absolutely LOVE ballroom dancing!! Shane did end up trying his new dance moves on the floor and did pretty well. I am so proud of him for even trying! The ball went from 8:00-midnight (like any proper ball does...), but we left a little early to rescue our babysitters. :D Kelly and Scott were total angels and gave up their Valentine's Day to babysit for us! I honestly can't thank them enough and we owe them big time!! Here are some fun pics and movies of the BYU team...if you have never seen them, they are awesome! We never really got a good shot of my hair, but (35 bobby pins later) I thought it looked nice. :D
YUMMY!! Food that I don't have to cook!
This was the lead couple for the BYU dancers...they were very good!
So my amazing friend Livia did our family pictures/Lexi's baby pictures last month. Hope you enjoy them! Check out her other stuff here. She also did our engagement pics forever ago...we love her!! Sorry there are a million...I couldn't choose just a couple. :D I promise not to comment on every single one. This is what Kaden thought of pictures...he is fine at home, but being told to sit somewhere was an issue for him...haha.
Much happier with the blocks
We haven't had a picture of just us in sooooo long....it was fun!
Kaden was clapping for himself since he did a great job of putting the blocks away...we have always clapped and said, "YAY!" after he does anything well....so now he will start clapping when he helps out or points out a light (every single light at WalMart....there are TONS of them). haha
More clapping....lol This is Kaden's "face" lately that he does anytime he is embarrassed, pretending to be shy, tired, or flirting...so he does this face ALL the time. I am so glad Livia caught it on camera.
Taking a break to eat....Daddy's turn to feed Lexi! He doesn't get many chances so I let (make?) him everytime we go out and she needs a bottle.
Ahhhh....a full belly and a clean diaper...what more can a girl want?
I absolutely love this face on her...it is so "get that stupid light out of my face so I can go back to sleep!" lol
Kaden was hanging out watching T.V. with one of Livia's kids. He was so cute-he layed on his stomach a foot in front of the T.V. and was glad to be done with pictures...or so he thought. Mwahahaha :D The thing I love about Livia is she captures moments, rather than just poses. Anyway, if you stuck through all of those-THANKS and I hope you enjoyed them as much as we do!
Check out his red hair! I think it will go darker later, but for now, bring on the mailman jokes! (Even though I found out that the mailman is a woman...hahaha)
Alexandria Jo was blessed yesterday, February 1, 2009, by her dad. :) We had everyone come over afterwards for treats at our friend's house (thanks Danny and Stephanie!!) since it is bigger than our place. :) I made about 60 cupcakes the day before and Kelly helped me frost them. We had TONS of food left over and I am pretty sure we will gain 30 lbs trying to eat it all. :) If you are wondering where we got Lexi's blessing dress from, it is Scott and Kelly's dress they got for Liz last year. Gorgeous, isn't it?! Here are some fun pics....
Kaden was mad that we took his cookie away for the picture.
My cute mom and her hubby, Kent.
My cousin Stephanie and my dad.
My favorite grandpa ever!!!!

Kaden was enjoying all the people and the treats! :)
My older (but shorter-ha!) sister, Suzanna and her adorable daughter, McKayla.
Me and Suzanna's hubby, Derek. He is a highway patrolman now so if he pulls you over, mention that you know me...haha.
